Okay so I need some assistance. I live in a tiny town and apparently the not so smart people at home depot and walmart don’t know what they are talking about. I purchased a 125 gallon hard preformed pond for my backyard. I have a pond turtle in a tank in the house that needs to go outside.
I just want to get it started and the rest will follow:
I need the following:
1) A Filter
2) A Pump
3) Water Fountain Head Attachments
Just to get it started…The rest is ornamental/plants/fish..which I can do.
The guys at home depot keep telling me that the filter is on the pump. But the filter is so small I don’t see how it can filter for a pond turtle. Can you help me with links that shows which three pieces I need to buy to make this pond start to work. The filter is what is really throwing me off. Just seems like I need something more than just the pump filter. I want something that will help keep the pond clean too.
Anything Solar would be great as well. Thank you!
He won’t take off..I am making him a little yard around it with a mini fence around that so he won’t wonder off.
my husband and i are building a garden pond in our backyard. we dont want to have an electrician install a GFCI unit so we are leaning towards a solar powered pump. we have found plenty but i’m wondering is can a fountain pump be used to create a waterfall? if you have any experience or know of any great sites to help please include with your answer. thanks in advanced!!
People who know birds generally know that they love the sound of running water – it attracts them and makes them sing. I’d like to build a simple, pole-mounted bird-bath / water fountain for my birds outdoors. I’m trying to locate a pump for the water – preferably solar powered. Inexpensive, reliable, no issues with priming, enough of a flow to make a little sound.
1. What kind of pump is best?
2. What’s a good vendor for this pump?
3. Is it realistic to power it with solar? Source / type of solar celll?
I guess I should emphasize that it is something I want to build myself; and the solar part is optional. Thanks for the recs’ reviews on Amazon say that generally the solar doesn’t generate enough power, better to go with juice from the grid.
ok i trying to install a fountain in my house but i don”t have electricity close the place were the fountain go so i was thinking to install a solar panel for the motor of the fountain if anny one knows were ican find them or where they sale them pls anny info. thank you very much
We just made a pond in our yard! we used pond liner and surrounded it with crescent cement pavers and mulch. We also have a solar powered fountain but it only runs during the day. How do we spruce up our pond? What kind of PLANTS? a better fountain that runs at night? PICTURES are appreciated!

I want to make solar powered fountain for my husband’s birthday. However, we do not get enough direct sun all day to power a “direct sunlight” solar panel. I would like to use a solar fountain pump and add a battery system to it so that the battery will charge and accomodate for periods of shade during the day. (Kind of like how solar garden lights power up all day and then run at night.)
I’ve seen systems and kits you can buy, but they seem ridiculously expensive and I’m sure this can’t be that difficult to do. Can anyone help me out w/ a How To?
I do have a basic understanding of electrical theory and wiring, but I am not an engineer, so please try to keep it simple. (I know about wiring, watts, volts, amps… I can install outlets, fix lights and understand balancing an electrical system to make sure the source is providing enough power and that the lamp won’t blow up, etc…. to give you an idea of where I am coming from.)
New container garden-in-progress. Bare beginnings. Basil, parsley, chives, variegated philodendron, begonia, fern, and mint. Solar fountain and lights. Soon to come: bench, folding baker’s rack, folding corner rack, more plants.
